Beginning Friday 23rd August MetroAir has been selected to offer rescue passenger flights for stranded cruise passengers in Alaska. Earlier in the week Celebrity Cruise Lines “Celebrity Millennium” Cruise ship suffered a power failure while at the port of Ketchikan, leaving the ship powerless and bringing the cruise to a sudden end. The ship was bound for Seward (Anchorage) where the 2000 passengers were due to fly home. As a result of the power problems the ship will be unable to make Anchorage and Celebrity Cruises have chartered a MetroAir B757 to fly passengers from Ketchikan to Anchorage over the weekend so that the passengers can make their onward connections. The flights will be offered from Friday 23rd until Tuesday 27th August by which time all passengers will have been safely transported so that they can fly home.
