KANSAS CITY, MO – MetroAir Virtual Airlines today announced its plan to participate in the VATSIM Event of the Year, “World Flight”.
World Flight is an annual charity event that takes place on VATSIM during the month of November. Eleven flight sim groups with fully enclosed cockpits will set off on week long ’round the world flight raising money for various charities. This year MetroAir has announced its intentions to take part in this event and are hoping to have full coverage across the week.
This is one of the largest events that MetroAir has ever tried to pull off and we need your help!!
The 2013 flight will start in Sydney, Australia embarking on a 24/7, 8 day flight around the world, visiting 44 different destinations until it reaches Sydney once again. MetroAir will be dedicating a Boeing 757-200W aircraft to the flight, which begins on November 3rd 2013 and finishes on November 8th 2013.
MetroAir is calling all pilots to help pull off what is set to be MetroAir’s best ever event.
“So how can I take part?” you might be asking.
Well, it’s simple! See the bottom of this post to see the official schedule page that our Operations team has assembled. From there, you will be able to sign up for a flight (simply follow the instructions in the yellow box at the top of the sheet).
It is very important that you notice the flight times because each flight will need to be flown in real time with the other 11 groups, so please make sure that you will be available during the time of the flight that you select.
Please also keep in mind that is is required that you fly this flight on VATSIM and also be on the MetroAir TeamSpeak server so that you can coordinate with the next MetroAir pilot (much like an Olympic relay race).
Fun Fact: For those pilots who are not yet certified to fly the 757, we will be offering free rank overrides so everyone will be able to participate!
Seeing as this flight is to feature VATSIM and the 757, MetroAir’s management has decided to make October a “VATSIM Month”. Staff and fellow pilots will be available on TeamSpeak and the in the MetroAir Forums to help any new pilots get up and running on VATSIM.
The Operations team will also be creating some special short 757 routes that will be available to all pilots so they can practice flying the 757.
There will also be some special group flights with the executive management team on VATSIM in October. Be on the lookout! You won’t want to miss them!
So are you excited?!? We sure hope so!
This will be a great event that will enable you to see places across the world that we might never fly to otherwise. We have to remember that this is a charity event and to this, we have included the list of charities that are being supported for this year, along with some links to their donation pages. While a donation is not compulsory, it would be great if you could all donate just a few of your spare Dollars (Or what ever currency you have).
Because of the large nature of the event, Jamie Mackay has been appointed as the “World Flight Ambassador” to help organize the event. If you have any questions about World Flight, or would like some more information, please feel free to email him at [email protected]
We also have a special mention and our thanks to Derrick Medlin, our Chief Personnel Officer, who was the catalyst for creating this event and bringing it to life. We caught up to him in the halls of the Corporate offices and he had this to say:
” I have been participating in this event as a ‘tag-along’ spectator for several years, flying legs when I could, and watching live video feeds. It is an amazing display of worldwide coordination, camaraderie and charity. I really encourage anyone to join in this once a year opportunity. It is an experience of a lifetime!”
We have also included a video that will hopefully get you as excited as we are and a link to the main world flight page that will have all kinds of useful information, including downloadable flight plans for the Quality Wings 757 and a list of scenery for the route.
